Can a neural network generate Arnon Grunberg’s columns?

View this work

Arnon Grunberg is perhaps the most prominent contemporary Dutch writer. Apart from novels, he writes a daily column for newspaper de Volkskrant. Given the current advancements in machine learning, we were wondering if a neural network could generate Grunberg’s daily columns.

I trained a recursive neural network (RNN) and a Markov chain with all of his 2.000 columns and generated hundreds of ‘new’ columns. The end result is the video you can see below in which Grunberg reads a selection of the best generated columns.
