DRIFT Live

An immersive one-hour show set in a future Netherlands where water and technology have become one

DRIFT Live is a live performance that brings the world of DRIFT, the generative open world podcast, onto the stage. Set in a steaming techno club where the night never ends, it transports the audience to a post-climate-crisis Netherlands, 500 years from now, where rising seas and human ingenuity have fused water and technology into a single fluid way of life.

The show weaves together live music and the narrative universe of DRIFT a world shaped by sea, moon and tides. In a dark room, a voice from the future whispers. Stories from the inhabitants wash over you in waves, the sea pulls back, and somewhere in the distance a club beat pulses. Fiction, climate data and AI-generated sound blur into one immersive experience. The one-hour show is a collaboration with musicians Mark IJzerman and Subject Sue, whose music forms the beating heart of the performance.

DRIFT Live premiered on November 19, 2024, as part of DRIFT’s showcase at IDFA DocLab, one of the world’s leading festivals for interactive storytelling. It was also performed at the Dutch Film Festival (NFF) and the Warming Up Festival.
